What is Mandatory Disclosure? The Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Scheme will require building owners to disclose energy efficiency information to all prospective purchasers and tenants. The scheme is expected to commence around October, 2010. Targeting buildings greater than 2000m2 net-lettable area (NLA) building owners will be required to
disclose a National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) and obtain a Building What you can do In preparation for the legislation, building owners may wish to undertake activities to improve energy
efficiency and reduce Greenhouse Gasses (GHGs) in order to improve ratings in time for the Mandatory Disclosure Scheme. To prepare your buildings or tenancies for sale or lease you will need to: 1. Rate your buildings now by performing a self-assessment or gain an accredited rating using a NABERS accredited assessor. 2. Implement energy efficiency improvements now so that in the future your building or tenancy will
achieve a higher rating, attractive to tenants and property investors.
