Western Australia expands battery eligibility to up to 100,000 homes.

Wednesday’s news saw the state government in Western Australia announce revisions to the WA Residential Battery Scheme to increase the number of eligible homes by a factor of 5, up from the original number of 20,000 to 100,000 homes.

Aligned to commence with the federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program from 1 July 2025, the two battery schemes combined will allow for a combined rebate of up to $5,000 for Synergy customers and $7,500 for Horizon Power customers.

Also included in the revisions was a reduction in the total support available, aimed to avoid over-incentivisation – a path that may be similarly followed by their NSW counterparts, given the previous concerns experienced under activities with over-incentivisation.

DEECA releases summary of stakeholder responses to Renewable Gas Directions Paper.

The Renewable Gas Directions Paper took another step forward with stakeholder feedback published by DEECA this week.

The summary included strong feedback from a variety of sources that the 1 petajoule 3-year target was far too low to make the industry commercially-viable with one respondent stating that one of their current projects was forecasted to double the near-term target.

While strong support for renewables remained, the need for a biomethane industry to assist with supply for hard-to-abate industries highlighted throughout the responses.

Currently, biomethane projects may be eligible to claim ACCUs or LGCs under federal certificate programs or ESCs (NSW) or VEECs (VIC) under state programs.

For more information on claiming certificates for biomethane projects, please contact the Ecovantage Account Management Team.
