Under the latest Energy Saving Scheme (ESS) Rule changes, the window for creating Energy Savings Certificates (ESCs) for gas-fired equipment under the Project Impact Assessment with Measurement & Verification (PIAM&V) is officially closing.
To be eligible to create incentives for these ending gas activities, all implementations must be completed and all ESCs fully registered by 30 June 2026.
What’s Changing?
From 1 July 2026, the following gas activities will be excluded from the Scheme:

- gas fired steam boiler
- gas fired water heater
- gas fired hot water boiler
- gas space heater
This move aligns with the broader NSW Government strategy to transition toward electrification and net-zero emissions.
What This Means for Your Business.
Now is the time to contact any clients with “on-hold” or “in progress” gas projects. To claim the ESC incentive, these projects must be completed before 30 June 2026.
- Immediate Client Contact: Reach out to all clients with projects that are not yet finalised.
- Status Review: Confirm the exact stage of completion and any required remaining steps (e.g., installation, commissioning, sign-off).
- Final Documentation: Emphasise the importance of engaging an Accredited Certificate Provider (ACP) to ensure all necessary documentation and evidence of completion is collected.
Failing to complete these projects before the cut-off will result in missing out on ESC incentives.
