Last week, the NSW government introduced legislation to expand its Energy Savings Scheme. We’ve been expecting these changes for some time, but it’s now official!
There are three keys changes:
- The energy savings target will increase from 5 per cent to 7 per cent in 2016 and then to 8.5 per cent by 2019, amounting to a 70% overall increase in the target.
- Incentives will be introduced to help businesses and households to save gas.
- The scheme will be extended to 2025.
According to the Government, these changes are estimated to save households and businesses up to $8.2 billion on energy bills over the lifetime of the scheme.
The Australian energy efficiency industry currently employs around 3,000 people, including our team at Ecovantage, so this is great news for job security and continued growth of this sector.
As an active participant in the NSW scheme, Ecovantage looks forward to continuing to roll out projects that save energy in the years to come.
