PDRS PRC Rebates for Batteries in NSW

Start Generating PRCs Today.

The NSW PRCs for batteries incentive is now live for residential and small business battery installations.

BESS1 Update.

Following the confirmation of the Federal government’s Cheaper Home battery program, the NSW scheme regulator has confirmed major changes to the battery incentives under the NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS).

Effective from July 1 2025:

  • Up-front rebates for installing batteries (BESS 1) will no longer be available – so cannot be combined or stacked with the new Federal battery incentives.

  • The up-front incentives for connecting batteries to Virtual Power Plants VPP’s – (BESS 2) have been substantially increased, and these incentives can be combined with the Federal battery program.

PDRS Battery Incentive.

This incentive sits under the existing Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), a NSW Government program that sits parallel to the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS). The PDRS has included Residential Battery installations as an eligible technology if installed after 1 November 2024.

BESS2.

For eligible installations, Accredited Certificate Providers (ACPs) such as Ecovantage can create PRCs where an eligible battery is installed at a home and is connected to a VPP. (BESS1&2) or small business (BESS1 only) with existing Solar PV, or at the same time as Solar PV is being installed.

BESS1 Ends 1 July 2025.

BESS1 was an activity allowing PRCs to be created for new battery installations at homes or small businesses, with existing Solar PV, or at the same time as Solar PV being installed.

Following the confirmation of the Federal government’s Cheaper Home battery program, the NSW scheme regulator has confirmed that from 1 July 2025 up-front rebates for installing batteries (BESS1) is no longer available.

Certificates Available Under this Scheme.

Peak Reduction Certificates (PRCs) are tradable certificates under the NSW Government’s Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS).

1 PRC represents 0.1 kilowatts of peak demand reduction capacity, averaged over one hour during the peak summer period.

This aims to encourage peak energy use reduction within peak demand times, to reduce pressure on the electricity grid and in turn reduce energy prices.

At Ecovantage, we consistently analyse market activity, creation metrics, policy changes, and consultation releases in conjunction with wider landscape activity. Below is the weekly price tracking of PRC prices.
