  • Round 1 now open until 30 June 2025
  • Businesses ranging from 2-199 full time employees are eligible

The Queensland Business Energy Saving and Transformation (QBEST) Rebates scheme launched in October. It is a fantastic opportunity for eligible small and medium-sized businesses across Queensland to embrace energy efficiency and save on operational costs.

Program Overview

The QBEST Rebates scheme is a valuable initiative tailored for small to medium-sized businesses in Queensland, especially those with a workforce ranging from 2 to 199 full time staff members. This program is designed to assist businesses in curbing energy expenses through enticing rebates. Specifically, it encourages the adoption of energy efficient products, such as upgrading outdated hot water systems. This not only provides financial benefits for businesses but also contributes to sustainable energy practices.

Key Program Details

Round one of the QBEST rebate scheme opened on 5 October 2023, and is scheduled to close on 30 June 2025. During this timeframe, eligible businesses have the opportunity to leverage the available funding, which generously offers rebates of up to 50% on qualifying equipment costs. It’s crucial to note that the maximum rebate amount is $12,500 (exclusive of GST), and businesses must spend a minimum of $8,000 (exclusive of GST) to qualify for the scheme.

Inclusions

To qualify for the rebate, your purchase must be from the following list:

  • Energy efficient appliances – 4 star or better
  • LED lighting
  • Energy efficient commercial fridge or freezer
  • A variable-speed air compressor
  • A variable-speed chiller, if the installation is to replace a fixed-drive chiller
  • A variable-speed drive unit for a pump or fan.
  • Electronically commutated fan motor
  • A motor classified in the IE3 or IE4 category under the IEC standard
  • A motion sensor, light level sensor or timer for lighting appliance

LED lighting in particular, is a key focus for energy efficiency. Upgrading to LED lighting not only contributes to reduced energy consumption but also enhances lighting quality and longevity. This includes various LED applications, such as bulbs, fixtures, and systems for residential and commercial use. Ensure that your purchase aligns with the specified criteria to maximise energy savings and qualify for the rebate.

Significant Benefits for Businesses

Participating businesses can reap substantial benefits through the QBEST Rebates scheme. Eligible businesses have the opportunity to receive rebates of up to $12,500 upon the purchase and installation of energy-efficient equipment. For instance, if a business invests $10,000, they can claim 50% of the GST exclusive amount, amounting to $4,545.45. This not only illustrates the financial support available but also demonstrates a tangible reduction in the economic strain associated with transitioning to energy-efficient practices. The scheme thus provides a compelling incentive for businesses to embrace sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

For example:

A business spends $10,000 on energy efficient upgrades

ROI before rebates is 4 Years

Client receives the QBEST Rebate of $4,454.45

ROI is now 2 Years
