Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme.
The Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS2) is a scheme that provides incentives for South Australians to save energy. The scheme is the successor to the Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES) that ran from 2009 to 2020, and REPS from 2020 to 2025. REPS2 aims to improve energy efficiency for households and small to medium businesses, with a strong consideration for low income households to reduce energy costs through smarter energy use.
How REPS Works.
REPS facilitates financial incentives by setting energy productivity targets (EPTs) to gas and electricity retailers (obliged retailers).
These retailers incentivise customers to reduce their energy use in order to meet their EPTs, often through discounts, rebates, vouchers, etc. for approved energy saving technologies.
How Ecovantage Fits In.
Activity Providers, like Ecovantage, ensure activities and upgrades meet REPS requirements, then submit the activities to the retailers for approval. Under the REPS scheme the savings are calculated in Gigajoules (GJ) and contribute to the obligated retailer’s annual total.
At Ecovantage we offer end-to-end projects solutions, from current-state assessment through to project implementation and certificate generation. We also work with a network of trusted installers to carry out projects on our behalf, and our industry-leading Compliance team undertake project review and certificate applications for other energy organisations.
Ecovantage is proud to be partnered with the Insulation Installation Assurance Authority to provide quality assurance to help get insulation right the first time. Read more >

Each year the Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS) has targets set by the South Australian Government. Separate targets are set for Non-Priority and Priority Group households.
For 2026, this is significantly lower than previous years:
- Non-Priority Group = 900,000 GJ
- Priority Group = 750,000 GJ
Incentive claims under the Scheme must be made in the same calendar year the upgrade, installation or connection occurs.
Although the Scheme can run through until December, we anticipate this year’s Non-Priority Group target will be met far earlier than previous REPS years and will not be operational in the later months of the year. Priority Group targets are likely to be available for most of the year.
Please note, this is subject to change at any time.
Every completed upgrade under REPS (i.e. hot water system upgrade, roof insulation installation, or VPP connection) reduces the amount remaining on the annual target.
- Once targets are reached, no further upgrades can be incentivised under the Scheme for the remainder of the year*.
Unfortunately, this means that, depending on the timing of the activity each year, some consumers miss out. In order to avoid missing out, Ecovantage will communicate the progress of both Priority and Non-Priority targets with all of its partners well in advance.
- If you are considering an upgrade, installation or connection under the Scheme, please reach out to your installation company or energy retailer/operator at your earliest convenience.
Once the targets are exhausted, the only way to access a REPS incentive is to delay undertaking an upgrade until the next year’s targets are set (routinely between January and March).
Please note that the incentive amount is subject to change each year.
*The upgrade can still go ahead, however no incentives under REPS will be available.

Rebate values are subject to change due to changes to REPS activity calculations, REPS targets, and contracted Gigajoule values.
REPS underwent a significant reduction in scheme targets, and an increase in REPS code requirements and Obliged Retailer liabilities in December 2025 – January 2026. As a result, rebate values, and even activity eligibility or viability, is considerably different in 2026 compared to the 2021-2025 REPS period.
No, we don’t deliver or sell hardware directly to consumers.
Ecovantage is a specialist energy certificate and professional services business. Our clients (partners) are typically trade service providers (i.e. installers, electricians, plumbers, refrigeration mechanics), energy performance contractors (EPCs), or commercial businesses who deliver projects to end users.
